How can I clean and refinish my hardwood floors? They are in rough shape?

They have been carpeted and covered with linoleum I think there is some type of glue on it from the linoleum it is black and has been painted in some spots the overall condition is good except for the paint and black stuff. Is there any kind of cleaner or stripper for this flooring?

What's the best install for Engineered Hardwood floor?

I just removed carpet and found bad spots on sub-floor. We are cutting the bad spots out and replacing the wood, then the sub-floor will be nailed in good for stability. There are paint stains and other stains on the sub-floor, so we are going to lay plywood over it. Is this enough preparation for installing a glue down engineered wood floor? Any suggestions?

I just moved into a new place and the landlord had all of the wood floors refinished and laminated and…?

I just noticed a huge crack/split in the floor and I have no idea how it got there. When I press it, gooey glue comes out (laminate?). Can recently laminated/refinished wood floors just split for no reason? I am afraid to tell my landlord because he might think I did it while moving in and I know I didn’t! What should I do?

Laying engineered wood flooring over vinyl flooring?

Can engineered wood flooring be installed on vinyl flooring?

I’m in the middle of home improvement project and have decided to lay some engineered wood flooring for my kitchen. The particular brand that I’ve bought requires glue-down installation.

The problem is, there’s vinyl flooring that’s been laid with cutback and it’s not going to come up without a significant amount of work and then re-preparation of the sub flooring. I’ve been to the local home improvement center several times and can’t really get a straight answer as to if this is possible. I’ve searched the Internet and its about 50-50 yes and no.

I’d really like anybody’s input into my situation, as I am under a little bit of a time constraint to finish the project as this is my new house and I’ve got to move out of my old house in in a week.

Thanks in advance to your answers!

How to lay a hardwood floor?

We have a tongue and groove hardwood floor (not engineered or laminate). We would like to lay it ourselves and save some money. I thought we had to use a nailer, but am wondering if we can glue it instead? We are going to lay down felt and I saw a video on DIY network that showed showed them using glue on the tongue and grooves instead of nails. Does anyone know if this will work? Any good websites, videos or books? Thank you.
