Do I have to sand my hardwood floor in order to refinish?
We found that we have hardwood floor under our carpet. We prepped the floor by taking out the floor tacks and staples. We went to rent the floor sander and the guy at the store said that it would save us money on sand paper to strip the varnish first and then sand the floor. So, we now have the floor stripped of varnish and we plan on staining our floor a dark dark brown. Do we still need to sand the floor since we stripped the varnish, or can we just wipe it down and start staining?

How hard is it to refinish a hardwood floor?
Just bought a home and want to refinish the hardwood floor. It’s not the tongue and groove kind – planks or what you would see in a home built in the ’60s. Is this something that is hard? What do I need to get this do-it-yourself job done and done right. Most the floor is in good shape…a few of the bedrooms have the normal wear and tear and want to just re-do the whole floor and also apply a darker stain. Any answers or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! PLEASE do not just link me to another webpage, I can do that myself…thanks!

How much work is it, realistically, to refinish a hardwood floor?
I just ripped up the carpeting in my bedroom which is in terrible condition, to find a hardwood floor undearth in equally as terrible condition. lol. There are paint splatters on the floor from heaven only knows how long ago, it’s splintery and shabby and in pretty bad shape. I know they have great potential, but Ive never done this kind of thing before and I was wondering if I would break the bank or my back trying to accomplish this myself. Im absolutely itching for a DIY project, as I have off this week, but is it worth it?
Financially speaking, would it be cheaper to recarpet the floor? Its a small room, about 9×12. Thanks! =]

won’t the polyurethane clog up the sanding discs on the stripper and not remove material very well?
